New Sleep Scenario

As much as I've been resisting it, I think Julie is pretty much done taking an afternoon nap. Actually, she's in between needing one and not needing one. She is not tired right after lunch, but she will fall asleep later in the afternoon if we take a ride in the car or stroller. That works out fine, as long as she doesn't sleep for very long. Yesterday I managed to rock her to sleep after lunch and she took a regular nap. The result was that she didn't fall asleep at night until after 10PM. Also, I had to move Melody out of their room because Julie was making it impossible for Melody to sleep. Not ideal. A perk of Julie not napping is that Melody gets to nap in her crib instead of in the pack-n-play in my room. I guess it's just time to face the music and give up my much-loved break in the afternoon. I'll gain some of that time back in the evening, since bedtime moves back to 7/7:30 with no nap. That's pretty good! Ultimately, though, it's not about me. It's about the well-being of my children, and this seems to be what they need at the moment. On that note, I'd better go spend some time with my big girl while my little girl is sleeping!

Hi Erica - I just caught up with your last few weeks. Sad to hear that Melody's mouth will need repair, but glad to hear that she understands you so well. I know exactly how you feel, with Molly not understanding things that are going on around her. And I think it's common to compare your kids - I've come a long way since we got Molly and accepting that she's developing very differently than Joshua did. Love reading your blog - have a great fall! Jennifer Helms

Yes, it is about what the kids need, but what mama needs is important too. If you are crazy because you need a break then ulitmately your kids will suffer as well. Anne will most definitely take a break in the middle of the day for "quiet play in her room" until she goes to kindergarten. I admit it, I NEED a break from my daughter once a day! Nap or no nap, she'll be in her room, once a day, by herself for the next 4 years!
