Medically speaking, we have some good news and bad news. The good news is that Melody's palate isn't open like Larry thought it was. He's not sure what he saw, but the doctor said it's too early to tell if it is opening. I forgot to ask about the food coming out her nose. We go back in a few weeks so I'll ask then.
Now, the bad news. I spoke to Julie's ENT about the results of her CT scan. He believes that Julie's mastoid infection and cholesteatoma (benign tumor) have reoccurred. That means she needs surgery to clear both out, as well as put in tubes. I asked if this will be a yearly thing and the doctor said it shouldn't be. When he goes in this time, he will surgically enlarge Julie's ear canal to reduce the chance of recurrence. It's amazing what they can do. The surgery makes me nervous though, since it puts the facial nerve at risk. Damaging that would lead to facial paralysis on one side. Our doctor is really skilled though, and I'm glad he'll be the one working on Julie. We are scheduled for surgery this coming Monday, the 22nd, at Central DuPage Hospital. We would greatly appreciate your prayers.
